| What is the difference between osteopaths, physios and chiropractors? |
| Whether you are a top class athelete, or a couch potatoe, all of us at some point will pick up an injury of some kind. Over the years of training I've had my fair share of knocks and I thought I'd share with you first of all how to minimize your chance of injury, and secondly your best course of action if you do become injured.
To start with, if you have never trained before and you are in any doubt whether you are fit/well enough to train, please don't hesitate in contacting us for further advice. If you are over the age of 55 then you will need a doctors note to obtain your licence (insurance).
Q.
Q. What is the difference between osteopaths, physios and chiropractors? A. Physiotherapists/physios are usually trained by, and allied to the NHS. Physiotherepy is commonly available through the NHS and private sources. Physios do not generally manipulate joints to restore movement; however, they are well trained and are very experienced in mobility, exercise and rehabilitation programs. Osteopaths use gentle techniques to restore normal movements to the spine and joints of the body and soft tissues connecting them. Many different osteopathic techniques can be used to treat any area of the body. There are some similarities between osteopaths and chiropractors in the manipulative techniques they use, but osteopaths generally use gentler applications of these to attain their results. Chiropractors use mainly spinal thrust manipulations, and frequently require x-rays, which they often perform themselves for an additional charge. Generally chiropractors give shorter treatment sessions per visit than osteopaths; the patient may also be required to book several sessions in advance. Chiropractors are well trained in spinal manipulation. The two local people that I use,(who are excellent by the way) are:- Miss. Angela Benedetto who not only gives a first class sports massage, but is a top class Physio as well. Tel: 07779118851 |
